Ancestral Bingo is an interactive cultural experience created under the Your Cultural Collective family to spark connection, reflection, storytelling, and community. At Your Cultural Collective (YCC), our mission is to help people reconnect with culture, heritage, identity, and the ancestral wisdom that still lives within us. Ancestral Bingo brings that mission to life in a way that is joyful, accessible, and deeply meaningful.

This is not just a game, it is a bridge. A bridge between generations. A bridge between strangers. A bridge between African heritage, African American history, and personal identity.

Through thoughtfully designed prompts, participants discover shared stories, uncover new perspectives, and reflect on their own journeys, turning a simple activity into a powerful moment of recognition, laughter, learning, and connection.

Part of the Ghanaian Day Naming Ceremony Experience

As part of the Traveling Ghanaian Day Naming Experience, Ancestral Bingo serves as a powerful opening or closing activity that brings participants into alignment before or after the ceremony begins.

Using cowrie shells (once used as currency across West Africa), participants move through the game by exchanging stories, finding connections, and placing shells as symbols of value and shared experience.

This moment:

  • Breaks the ice in a meaningful way

  • Encourages authentic conversation

  • Creates a sense of community

  • Prepares participants for the deeper experience of receiving their Ghanaian Day Name
